Climate-Neutral City

Through Innovation, Cooperation and Strategy

The path to climate neutrality is complex, both technically and organizationally. In municipalities in particular, multi-layered administrative structures, limited human resources, and heterogeneous constellations of actors make it difficult to consistently implement the necessary transformation processes.

Cities are at the center of the global sustainability debate. They account for around 70% of global CO₂ emissions, mainly from transport, energy consumption, and the building sector. Given this responsibility, they are also key players in the fight against climate change. To achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, urban emissions must fall by 7.6% annually by 2050. This is an enormous challenge that requires far-reaching structural changes.

At the same time, new opportunities are emerging: the expansion of green infrastructure, the promotion of low-emission mobility, and a sustainable energy supply can make a significant contribution to CO₂ reduction in cities. In order to meet regulatory requirements and remain sustainable in the long term, the necessary structures and plans must be put in place now.

Our Approach

Together with municipal stakeholders, we develop holistic strategies for effective city-wide CO₂ management, actively supporting the path to climate neutrality. To this end, we prepare well-founded CO₂ balances and develop cross-sector measures for reducing emissions. We rely on close cooperation with all relevant stakeholders from administration, business, civil society, and local companies in order to successfully implement sustainable changes together.

Particularly noteworthy is the iterative, user-centered, and collaborative approach pursued by Haselhorst Associates."
